Windshield replacement
done right β ADAS included.
Your windshield isn't just glass β it's a structural component and the mount point for cameras, sensors, and rain detection systems. Weirs Collision Center replaces windshields, side glass, and rear glass with proper ADAS recalibration included, so your safety systems work exactly as designed after the job is done.
A cracked windshield fails Maine inspection β and grows with every freeze-thaw cycle.
Rock chips and small cracks spread quickly in Maine winters as moisture freezes in the damage. A chip that could have been repaired today becomes a crack that requires full replacement by spring. Don't wait β most windshield damage is covered by your comprehensive insurance.
More than glass. Your safety system starts here.
Windshield replacement is one of the most searched auto services in Maine β and one of the most mishandled. Most glass-only shops replace the windshield and send you home. What they don't tell you is that your forward collision warning, lane departure system, and automatic emergency braking camera all live on that windshield mount. When the glass moves, so does the camera angle. And an uncalibrated camera means uncalibrated safety systems.
At Weirs Collision Center, every windshield replacement includes a check for ADAS system recalibration requirements. We're I-CAR Gold Class certified with full ADAS calibration capabilities β because replacing the glass is only half the job on a modern vehicle.
Serving Kennebunk, Biddeford, Saco, Wells, Ogunquit, and all of York County with same-week availability in most cases.
Every piece of glass on your vehicle, done correctly.
From a cracked windshield to a smashed door glass, we handle all auto glass replacement β with the same certified technicians and quality standards used on full collision repairs.
Full windshield replacement using OEM or OEM-equivalent glass, properly bonded with urethane adhesive and cured to OEM spec before the vehicle is released. ADAS calibration requirements evaluated on every job. Covered by comprehensive insurance on most policies.
Most common Β· Insurance coveredSmall rock chips and short cracks (typically under 6 inches and outside the driver's direct line of sight) can often be repaired without full replacement β using resin injection to restore clarity and prevent spreading. We assess every chip honestly: if repair is viable, we'll say so.
Saves money vs. replacementDoor glass, vent glass, and fixed side windows β broken from a break-in, accident, or rock strike. We source the correct glass for your vehicle and restore the window mechanism and weatherstripping for a factory-tight seal and proper operation.
Break-ins & collision damageRear windshields often include defrost grids, wiper mounts, and antenna leads embedded in the glass. We source rear glass with the correct embedded features for your vehicle and ensure all integrated systems function correctly after replacement.
Defrost & antenna preservedSunroof glass cracked by hail, falling debris, or impact. We replace the glass panel and inspect the sunroof frame, drain channels, and seal for damage that could lead to leaks β because a sunroof leak is often more damaging than the broken glass itself.
Hail & impact damageAfter any windshield replacement on a vehicle with ADAS (forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking), the forward-facing camera must be recalibrated. We perform static and/or dynamic recalibration procedures per OEM requirements β not all glass shops can do this.
Critical safety stepMost shops replace the glass.
We make sure your safety systems still work.
On any modern vehicle with a forward-facing camera β and that's most vehicles built after 2018 β the camera is mounted directly to the windshield. When you replace the windshield, the camera moves. Even a fraction of a degree of angular offset can cause your lane departure warning to read the wrong lane, or your automatic emergency braking to trigger late.
ADAS recalibration re-establishes the correct reference point for your camera relative to the road. It requires specific targets, a level surface, and the correct calibration software for your vehicle's system. It is not something most windshield-only shops are equipped to perform.
Systems that require recalibration after windshield replacement
Any vehicle with a forward camera mounted to the windshield β ask us if yours qualifies.
Repair or replace β how we decide.
Not every cracked windshield needs to be replaced. We'll give you an honest assessment β and if repair is a viable option, we'll tell you. Here's how the decision breaks down.
- Single chip smaller than a quarter
- Crack shorter than approximately 6 inches
- Damage is not in the driver's primary sight line
- Crack has not reached the edge of the glass
- No secondary cracks branching from the impact point
- Glass is not laminated in a pattern that blocks resin penetration
- Crack longer than 6 inches or spanning the windshield
- Damage directly in the driver's primary line of sight
- Crack has reached the edge of the glass (structural compromise)
- Multiple impact points or a spiderweb crack pattern
- Damage to the inner laminate layer
- Glass fails Maine inspection (any crack in the swept wiper area)
Windshield replacement is often covered by your insurance β at little or no cost to you.
Windshield damage is covered under the comprehensive portion of your auto insurance β not collision. That matters because comprehensive claims typically have a lower deductible than collision, and in many cases the cost of windshield repair or replacement falls at or below your deductible entirely. Some policies waive the deductible for glass claims specifically.
We work directly with all major carriers β State Farm, GEICO, MMG, Patriot, and all others. We handle the claim process start to finish. You don't need to navigate the insurance system yourself. More on insurance claims ›

OEM vs. aftermarket glass β why it matters.
Your insurance company may push for aftermarket (OEM-equivalent or AM) glass β it costs them less. Aftermarket glass meets the same basic safety standards, but it isn't manufactured to the same tolerances as the glass your vehicle left the factory with. For standard vehicles this difference is minor. For vehicles with windshield-mounted cameras, HUD displays, or acoustic lamination, it matters significantly.
We discuss glass options transparently with every customer. OEM glass is available for most makes and models. When aftermarket glass is the right choice, we'll use quality-rated AM glass β not the cheapest option available. Either way, the installation is the same certified process.

Answers to common windshield questions
Most Maine drivers have the same questions when a chip turns into a crack. Here's what you need to know before you call.
Will my insurance cover windshield replacement in Maine?
In most cases, yes β if you carry comprehensive coverage. Maine is not a zero-deductible glass state, so you'll typically owe your comprehensive deductible (commonly $100β$500). We work directly with all major insurers, file the claim, and bill them straight so you only pay your deductible at pickup. More on insurance claims β
Can my chip be repaired, or do I need a full replacement?
If the damage is smaller than a quarter, not in the driver's primary line of sight, and hasn't reached the edge of the glass, a resin repair usually works and takes about 30 minutes. Cracks longer than 6 inches, edge cracks, or any damage that's spread across the windshield typically require full replacement to keep the structural integrity of the cabin.
Does my windshield need ADAS recalibration after replacement?
If your vehicle has lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, or a forward-facing camera mounted near the rearview mirror, then yes β the camera must be recalibrated to OEM spec after the new glass is installed. Skipping this step can cause those safety systems to misread the road. We complete static and dynamic recalibration in-house and provide documentation.
How long does a windshield replacement take?
The replacement itself takes about 60β90 minutes. We then need a safe-drive-away time of roughly one hour for the urethane adhesive to cure, plus 30β90 minutes for ADAS recalibration if your vehicle requires it. Most customers are back on the road the same day.
Will a cracked windshield fail Maine state inspection?
Maine inspection rules reject any crack that obstructs the driver's view, any crack longer than 8 inches, and any star-break larger than 1.5 inches in the wiper sweep. If you're due for inspection and have visible damage, get it addressed before you go β a fresh sticker depends on it.
Should I choose OEM or aftermarket glass?
OEM glass is built to the exact factory specification of your vehicle, including frit pattern, optical clarity, acoustic interlayer, and ADAS camera bracket placement. We recommend OEM for any vehicle with driver-assist features, heads-up display, or rain sensors. Aftermarket glass can be a budget-friendly option for older vehicles without those systems β we'll walk you through the trade-offs before you decide.
